The story of King David is brought to life in a new series from Prime Video. “House of David” follows the biblical figure on his rise to king over Israel.

The synopsis is as follows—“House of David tells the story of the ascent of the biblical figure, David, who eventually becomes the most renowned and celebrated king of Israel. The series follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his own pride. At the direction of God, the prophet Samuel anoints an unlikely, outcast teenager as the new king. As Saul loses his power over his kingdom, David finds himself on a journey to discover and fulfill his destiny, navigating love, loss, and violence in the court of the very man he’s destined to replace. As one leader falls, another must rise.”

The series is based on an idea from director Jon Erwin. He also acts an executive producer alongside Jonathan Walker, Jon Gunn, Justin Rosenblatt, Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev. Historical drama “The Chosen” creator Dallas Jenkins also has a hand in the project.

“House of David” stars newcomer Michael Iskander, who was cast as David after a four-month international search. He comes to the series fresh off of his role in the Tony Award-winning musical “Kimberly Akimbo.”

“‘House of David’ is our telling of a 3,000-year-old hero’s journey, and it all starts with our David, Michael Iskander,” Erwin told Variety last summer. “Finding Michael and getting to work with him has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. Our entire cast is incredible, and I can’t wait for a global audience to get to know them the way I do.”

The show also stars Ali Suliman as King Saul, Ayelet Zurer, Stephen Lang, Indy Lewis and Martyn Ford who plays the mighty Goliath.

“House of David” premieres on Prime Video on February 27.
